The Cupcake Bakeoff for the RSPCA Cupcake Day went well at work today. We had a good assortment of cupcakes - along with mine there was also carrot, lemon, banana, and vanilla with different toppings. There was some tough competition from bumblebee cupcakes (see below) but the fondant toppers and the booze in mine got me over the line and I won the bakeoff. Sweet!
Jennie organised a great event. There was a good variety of cupcakes, and a really good turnout with many people coming from other floors/branches. Most of the cupcakes sold at morning tea time, with the leftovers gradually disappearing by the end of the day.
And money wise, we raised over $240 for the RSPCA - a good result!

Question, did you make the fondant? If so, do you have a recipe? Does regular food dye work to colour the fondant?
jfox: thanks! It was a bit strange watching people eat the animals - all that effort and they were gone in two bites (sob!). A couple of people kept theirs though, which was really sweet.

Lisa: The bumblebee ones were made by a colleague's daughter - so I don't think they should have been in the competition at all. Fortunately I just managed to squeeze them out! ;)
Thanh: I bought the fondant from Cake Deco - I think it was about $9 for a big bag (I still have about 2/3 of it). I used gel paste food colouring - from what I've read online normal food colouring is too liquid and will mess with the consistency of the fondant.
Fantastic effort. Along side all the other cupcakes yours really do take the cake...pardon the pun! those bumble bees are pretty cute too. But I'm curious, how was the winner judged?
The most oooohs and ahhhs?...'cause that would be you hands down!!
